British Music Experience Family Events

During the October half term The British Music Experience really does have something for everyone from tots to teens all the way up to granny. Highlights include the chance to get your hands on a top-flight electric guitar in the Gibson Interactive Instrument Studio, with experts on hand to give you some valuable tips and a colouring competition for those budding little artists.

Open Sessions: 1 pm – 3pm in the Gibson Interactive Area

Get ready to rock in our fun Open Sessions. Meet our Visitor Experience Musicians who are on hand every day from 1 – 3 pm in the Gibson Interactive instrument studio. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced, it’s time to unleash your inner rock star! All ages are welcome.

Family trail: All day

Come along to the British Music Experience and take part in the free Family Trail. Meet Dougie Floyd and his gang of musical mates, explore the exhibition following clues and completing puzzles along the way. Complete the Trail and receive a certificate making you a British Music Explorer. Suitable for 4 -11 year olds

October Half Term Colouring In Competition: All Day in the
Discovery Zone

From Dougie Floyd to Frankie Feathers who’s your favourite character from the British Music Experience troupe? This October half term kids can design an outfit for their favourite character for a chance of winning a British Music Experience family ticket. Suitable for all ages.

Story Time Session: 1.30pm in the Education Zone

We’re hosting an interactive, fun for all the family, story time session with a musical theme. Sing along to well-known tunes and come on an adventure with Sonny in the Summer of Love, meet his friends and help him solve some puzzles along the way. Suitable for all ages.

Meet the Mascot: 2pm

Meet our very own Dougie Floyd and Shirley Shoop Shoop from the British Music Experience Troupe. They will be popping in for a visit to meet our British Music Experience Explorers every day in the Discovery Zone straight after story time.

Film Night At The Museum: 25th October. 5.30pm.

Come join us after hours this half term for Film Night at the Museum where we will be showing the Jack Black classic, The School of Rock.

Recently fired from his rock band, Dewey Finn takes a job as a 4th grade teacher at an uptight private school where his free-spirited attitude and shenanigans cause the students to discover other sides of themselves. Dewey forms a rock band with his students to win a Battle of the Bands, help get himself out of debt and re-establish himself as a musician...

Our café will be serving cinema style snacks and drinks. Fun for all the family.

Film Night tickets: £6 (£5 for Resident Pass holders). Children under five go FREE!

The British Music Experience tells the story of British Music through costumes, instruments, performance and memorabilia. Whatever age you are, and whatever you are into, there is something here for you.

The collection boasts outfits worn by artists such as Freddie Mercury and Dusty Springfield, to the Spice Girls, Adam Ant and X Factor finalists and musical instruments played by some of the world’s most renowned artists from Noel Gallagher to the Sex Pistols. There are hand written song lyrics from Adele, the original statues from the Brits and the Apple Corp front door from Saville Row.

Visitors are also able to get involved too. You can learn a musical instrument with the best music equipment available, from drum kits to keyboards.
