Virtuoso is an exciting and contrasting evening ranging from the romantic ballet era of Chopin Variations through to Gershwin-Motion Pictures, with the Hollywood musicals as its theme. The Black Swan pas de deux from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake is followed by the famous Corsair Pas de derux and Spring Waters pas de deux very rarely seen out side Russia and made famous by the Bolshoi Ballet. Music composed by Rachmaninov
An interesting addition to the programme is Control-Alt-Delete A modern piece about the relationship of three people, choreographed by Oliver Speers.
We present too a neo-classical Pas de Deux The Missing Page which was commissioned in 1992 and was based on the French classic novel "Paul et Virginie" by Bernardin de Saint Pierre. The copy of the book had a page missing, so the choreographer Dominic Marshall imagined what happened on that page." Music Composer - Liszt
By contrast choreographed by Dominic Marshall, the modern symbolic version of The Firebird is impressive, danced to the famous Stravinsky score.
The grand finale of the evening is the wonderful Gershwin ballet based on the Hollywood musicals era of the thirties and forties. The classical ballet dancers change their image and become Garland, Astaire Gene Kelly Cyd Charisse. Choreographed brilliantly by Ian Mackenzie Stewart who has starred in West End musicals and his claim to fame is being Tom Cruise’s understudy in his film days, the EYB dancers present a dazzling Hollywood finale to the evening.
