Award winning Cirk La Putyka gives a world premiere to Batacchio: a theatrical contemporary circus spectacular inspired by the lavish extrav

Batacchio mixes breathtaking acrobatics, stunning original music and unexpected illusions in a fantastical journey to the spectacular comedies of the 19th century. It fluctuates between the real and unreal, combining new circus, dance, sports and theatre with disciplines rarely seen in the field of contemporary circus - disciplines so old that they look fresh and new: ventriloquism, stage magic, and geek bodily marvel stunts.

‘All the routines are anchored in methods dating back to the 19th century - we're avoiding all modern technology,’ says Komaro. ‘We wanted to create a unique spectacle inspired by the grandiose shows of the past. So above all, it showcases the aptitude of the performers, the skills and magic tricks they are able to carry out on their own.’

Edinburgh 2017 is Batacchio’s world premiere and Cirk La Putyka’s third Fringe appearance: the company had sell-out seasons in 2015 and 2011, when it was also a Total Theatre nominee for La Putyka, a boisterous bar-room brawl of show that brings magic and tenderness too. It’s this mixture of power, passion and finesse which marks all of Cirk La Putyka’s work.
