You'll be part of a training excavation carrying out a real dig, looking for evidence of the Civil War and the medieval castle. You'll be working side by side with professional archaeologists, as they support and guide you to gain archaeological skills on the job. There’ll also be daily workshops and tutorials, with training on different archaeological techniques and equipment.
For people living in Nottingham City or Nottinghamshire we have a number of FREE 1 or 2 day training places (available on a first come first served basis), across the entire period 18 July - 19 August. These free places are kindly provided by Nottingham City Council.
We Dig the Castle! is part of Archaeology Live and the 2016 Festival of Archaeology. It takes place 18 July - 19 August, Monday - Friday.
Age 14-plus, although under-16s must come with a parent/guardian.
You can join at any time across the month, and come on the dates that suit you.
This is a supportive, small-group, environment, and absolute beginners are really welcome.
If you live in Nottingham/ Nottinghamshire: we have free places every day (first come first served). Get in touch!
Paid places: you can book individual days, blocks, or whole weeks. Individual days cost £50, but if you book multiple days (which don't need to be together) this rate per day falls. Contact us for a full list of prices.
If you're 14 or 15: we have a special reduced price. Get in touch to find out more!
If you came in 2015, you're at TPA volunteer, or you've been part of a project with us: we have special reductions to recognise your commitment. Again, get in touch.
