Stonor House and Park: Stonor, open to the public, has been the home of the Stonor family for more than 800 years and a centre of Catholicism throughout - including all the dark days following the Reformation.
The House is hidden in a fold of the Chilterns five miles from the Thames at Henley. There is an outstanding display of family portraits, tapestries, bronzes and ceramics. A 14th century chapel of flint and stone with an early brick tower, where Mass continues to be celebrated completes the main buildings.
The beautiful Italianate walled garden sits behind the House on a gently rising slope.
The surrounding park grows out of the surrounding beechwoods and fields. It offers stunning views, and supports a herd of fallow deer.
Lawned areas adjacent to the house are ideal for the smaller (up to approx. 200) receptions where prestigious entertaining can be arranged with the tranquil backdrop of the historic house and beautiful parkland. Car parking is close by, and all peripheral support services can be arranged and sited for maximum convenience.
Access to the walled gardens can also be arranged in summer where guests can enjoy a variety of views suitable for reception cocktails in full privacy and luxury.
Stonor Park has been the home of a herd of fallow deer since medieval times.
Venison subtly flavoured with thyme growing in the Park has always been keenly prized - both centuries ago at Court and now in local restaurants.
