Stags and Hens is written by celebrated playwright Willy Russell, well known for plays such as Educating Rita and Blood Brothers.Set in 1970's Liverpool, the heyday of Merseybeat and the Beatles is long gone, and working class life is still defined by limited horizons and very traditional assumptions about the roles of men and women.
The action takes place in a tacky nightclub where Dave and Linda have decided, unbeknowst to each other, to hold their stag and hen parties with hilarious but challenging outcomes.
Lively, coarse and very funny, Willy Russell combines comedy with acrid truth in the style he has made unmistakably his own as he explores the theme of escape to a better life.
