FRIDAY 27TH JANUARY...THE REPUBLIC OF FENTONIA PRESENTS: ....CIRCUS OF INSANITY, SYTERIA, JEMMA FREESE TRIO, ALICE NICHOLLS....

ROF has always supported women in music, but until now, hasn't made a song and dance about it (excuse the pun). It has been difficult to put a line-up together where women are so well represented, as they're heavily outnumbered in the music scene...all the more reason for us male promoters (for I am one) to actively support them. The painting we're using on this event page and the posters is an Egyptian wall-painting depicting female musicians, and dates back around 3400 years, so there's nothing new about women in music. Yes, plenty of them have become famous in recent decades, but there's more yet to do in regards to equality in music, as in all walks of life.

CIRCUS OF INSANITY...our amazing headliners, whoever else we get later, will be this very theatrical and powerful Gothic-horror electro-gypsy-rock band, who dress up as blood-smeared gypsies and sing about whimsical psychopathic murder. They inspired me to come back from an 8 month rest from promoting, and were meant to play my birthday gig in November, but the singer fell ill...I'm very pleased to be re-arranging their Fenton debut.

SYTERIA...all-girl pop-punk/rock band from Leeds who, after forming only a Year ago, are already making an impression nationally and internationally....featuring Jax Chambers, who also plays guitar in Girlschool, who famously had a joint chart hit with Motorhead in the 80s.

JEMMA FREESE TRIO...a beautiful Soul/Jazz/trip-hop group based in Leeds. Their combination of jazz harmony, hip hop inspired beats and soulful lyrics creates a smooth, expressive sound full of feeling and energy. Performing original compositions in a unique style, the Jemma Freese Trio offer a new take on their influences, fusing sounds into a new and exciting experience.

ALICE NICHOLLS...singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who does acoustic-gritty-rocky-folky-pop, influenced by classical, with some blues thrown in for good measure. Alice recorded her first full-length album 'Resonance' in 2004, following it with two more records before the release of 'Recycled Songs' in October 2012. Her latest album 'Folk Law', a collection of re-arranged, not-so-traditional British folk songs with a new twist, was released earlier this year and described by BBC Lincolnshire as 'outstanding and refreshing'.
