Fairfax House: Fairfax House is considered one of the finest eighteenth-century houses in England, and is now open each day as an historic house museum for self guided tours.
Fairfax House is one of the finest eighteenth-century townhouses in England, and is home of the famous Noel Terry collection of furniture. The magnificent stucco ceiling took over 1,000 man hours to restore to its former glory, having been beneath a leaking cloakroom for several decades. The table settings are changed frequently. The table shown is set for the start of a meal which took place over 200 years ago.
A George II eight-branch epergne, made by William Cripps in 1757. The detachable circular dishes hold sweetmeats made after 18th century recipes.
The engraved coat of arms is probably that of the Dyke family of Horsham, Sussex. Part of the Boothman Smallwood bequest of silver to Fairfax House. .
