York Art Gallery, York, Yorkshire, YO17EW

York Art Gallery: See Monet, Rembrandt, Lowry, Titian, Hepworth and much more among our opening exhibitions and permanent collections. The gallery has an outstanding collection of British and European art spanning the last 600 years, displayed in new themed areas under the headings of people, places, stories, devotion and morality.

York Art Gallery is exceptional amongst regional galleries for the range, quality and interest of its paintings collection. It also houses an outstanding collection of pioneer studio pottery. Changing displays from these collections are complemented by a programme of temporary exhibitions and events.

The Art Gallery building has a faade in the Italian Renaissance style, although sadly most of the proposed carved-stone and tile decoration was not executed. Four sculpted roundels between the arches of the entrance loggia depict famous artistic sons of York, namely John Carr the architect, John Camidge the musician, John Flaxman the sculptor and William Etty the painter.
