The main Liverpool City Public Library is situated in William Brown Street next to the Museum and Art Gallery. It is one of the largest public libraries in Britain and it is open to all members of the public for rererence purposes. The Picton, Brown and Hornby buildings house the area's collection of over 1million books, making it one of the largest and indeed oldest libraries in the UK, with the Liverpool Record Office being the largest and most significant County Record offices.
