St Georges Chapel Houses
The Queen's Free Chapel of St George within her Castle at Windsor. St George's Windsor has a rich and varied history. When Edward III founded his new college at Windsor in August 1348 he attached it to a 13th-century chapel constructed by Henry III in the lower ward of the castle. St Edward's Chapel, as it was then known, was immediately rededicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, St George and St Edward and remodelled as part of the construction of the new college.
The connection between the Royal Family and St George's Chapel is a strong one. Members of the Royal Family have been baptised, married and buried there. The Queen is closely involved with the life of the College, attends mattins at the chapel on Easter Day, and takes part in the annual ceremony of the Order of the Garter.
Entrance to St George's Chapel is subject to the admission payment at Windsor Castle ticket office. .
