Felin Cochwillan is a privately owned ex-estate watermill in North Wales, UK.
It was built 200 years ago as a fulling mill and later converted to grind corn, barley and oats
Most of its machinery remains including the water wheel, mill stones, and drying kiln.
During restoration visitors are welcome by appointment only.
The wheel is an Under-shot (High Breast type). Water from the 'mill race' falls from a height above the axle onto the wheel were it is collected in wooden 'buckets'. The buckets fill with water which causes the wheel to turn. There are 36 buckets on the wheel each one consisting of three wooden parts.
Over the years this wood has become rotten and is in need of replacement. This will be a long process but hopefully the wheel will turn once again in the near future.
