Britain’s Best Museum (Period Living & Traditional Homes ‘2005 Best of British Awards’ and ‘Living Museum of the Year 2004’ (Good Britain Guide), Beamish is one of the region’s leading tourist attractions. It vividly recreates life in the North of England in the early 1800s and early 1900s. Costumed staff welcome visitors to The Town, the drift mine and Colliery Village, Home Farm, Pockerley Manor and Pockerley Waggonway with its replica of The Steam Elephant.

Open: Until 18 March 2005, 10am - 4pm, closed Mondays and Fridays.

Summer, 19 March - 30 October 2005, daily 10am - 5pm.

Winter, 31 October 2005 - 31 March 2006 10am - 4pm, closed Mondays and Fridays.

Last admission always 3pm.

Cost:

Summer - Adult £15.00, Child (5-16 years) £9.00, Sixty Plus £12.00.

Special discount for coach groups in summer.

Winter - Adults, Children and Sixty Plus £6.00.

NB A winter visit is centred on The Town and tramway only and lasts around 2 hours. An average visit in summer lasts around 5 hours.
