Chitty Chitty Bang Bang for sale

Everyone's favourite childhood car, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang has been shipped to Los Angeles to be sold at auction for an estimated £1.2m.

Iconic vintage movie car Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is up for sale at an auction in California.

Kept in Stratford upon Avon by its owner Pierre Picton, the last surviving clown from Bertram Mills Circus for the last 40 years, the movie car was shipped from its Warwickshire home to Los Angeles where it will be auctioned off by Hollywood memorabilia firm 'Profiles in History' for an estimated £1.2m.

As one of the most recognisable cars in the world, the vehicle was designed by Ken Adam and built by Alan Mann Racing in Hertfordshire in 1967, and was registered with the number place GEN11, translating to 'magical person or being' in Latin.

Five other vehicles were produced to promote the movie around the world: a smaller road-going vehicle, a flying car, a hover-car and an engineless vehicle that was used for trailer work.
