LS Lowry's most famous painting depicting Piccadilly Circus in London has sold at auction for £5.6m and was one of 14 works by the painter auctioned.
The price paid for Piccadilly Circus in 1960 matched the record-breaking fee paid for The Football Match, sold in May. It was, however, estimated to be auctioned for £6m, a private buyer won the painting for £400,000 less.
14 paintings by Lowry were sold at Christie's, auctioned from the Lord Forte Collection.
Art dealer Richard Green said: 'To sell 14 paintings in one sale shows the breadth of his appeal. A painting by him is more expensive at auction than any Henry Moore sculpture or Damien Hirst painting.'
The collection fetched £17.6m in total, which exceeded the auction's pre-sale estimate.
An exhibition of 38 of Lowry's paintings and drawings opens next Wednesday at Mr Green's art gallery in Mayfair, London.
