The diverse new series celebrates the work of local and visiting writers and spoken word artists. The established, new and emerging artists will feature as well in online broadcasts of a series of interviews; and a journal at the end of the year showcasing the work of the featured PopUp Poetry writers and other selected poets.
In October 2013, the first successful PopUp Poetry event took place at Tomatitos in Hay-on-Wye, produced by G-riots Arts as part of the Wales-wide Black History Month events. PopUp Poetry's inaugural spoken word artist was Steven Duncan, a leading UK Slam champion. Another poetry/music event took place at the globe in Hay the following month featuring Canada's 'Dr Poetry' Robert Priest, Hay-on-Wye writer Simon Pettifar and local pianist Anna Fry.
