Alt-rock band Blur debuted with their album Leisure, incorporating the sounds of 'Shoegazing' and 'Madchester'.

Influenced by pop groups including The Beatles, The Kinks and XTC, the band popularised the Britpop genre, helped in a way by their battle with rival rock band Oasis. Awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award at the 2012 Brit Awards, the band thereafter announced a box-set called Blur 21, containing all seven Blur albums, unreleased songs and 3 DVD's, and headlined a live show at Hyde Park in London for the 2012 London Olympics closing ceremony.
