Featuring Budleigh Male Voice Choir and SW Comms Band
Budleigh Salterton Male Voice Choir and SW Comms Band combine to perform a celebration of St Georges Day with a mixture of English Songs, Tunes and VersesFounded in 1974, the Choir now has 60 members and provides a stimulating and enjoyable hobby for its members. It performs about ten concerts a year around the East Devon region and beyond, most of which are for the benefit of local and national charities. Recent beneficiaries include Hospiscare, MacMillan Nurses, Royal British Legion, RNLI , Rotary and various church development funds.
The Choir has a repertoire of nearly 100 songs, and over the years it has sung in many venues around Devon and at locations in Kent, South Wales, Belgium and Holland. It sang alongside 12 other choirs at the Anglo Welsh Festival of Male Choirs, making one choir of over 500 voices. It participated in the Cornwall International Festival for Male Voice Choirs in 2015 coming third in the large choir category.
The choir is directed by Michael Graham who is Scholar Organist at Exeter Cathedral and Director of Chapel Music at Exeter University. He is also an accomplished tenor singer and is in demand as a soloist.
The South West Comms Band (formerly Lympstone South West Telecoms Brass Band) is a village band located in Lympstone.. The parish log records the Lympstone band performing at the Harvest Home and Sunday School Feast in the summer of 1889. The band has a very generous sponsor, Tony Rowe and his company South West Comms and the band is currently in the First Section of the West of England region.
