Deepblak founder Aybee and revered New York DJ & producer GE-OLOGY join The Pickle Factory on 1st July, supported by Toby Nicholas.
Under a vast array of monikers - Orion 70, Afrobatik, Prof Delacroix and many more besides - Aybee has been releasing rich, soulful electronic music in all styles and textures since the turn of the 21st Century. A product of Oakland, CA, and a deep family tradition of spiritual beliefs and artistic innovation, Aybee was born into a musical family including a New Orleans-based grandfather who ran a small jazz label, and an uncle who founded the disco imprint Armour in the late 1970s. In 2001, he launched Deepblak Recordings as a creative outlet for his music, before expanding to a tightly-knit collective of artists that includes Afrikan Sciences, Damon Bell and Octo Octa. As a DJ, Aybee is one of the contemporary US house scene's finest, specialising in a brand of deep, spiritual house music steeped in the American tradition of Tetrode, Driftwood and Prescription.
He's joined by perennial Oval Space favourite GE-OLOGY. Since the New Yorker tore the roof off our terrace party last summer, we've been eagerly awaiting the chance to hear his genre-bending record collection in the altogether more intimate surrounds of The Pickle Factory. Possessed with an adroit technique, flawless flow, and a broad collection of records that goes from Golden Age funk to afrobeat, house, techno and back again, Ge-ology is undeniably one of the new American generation's most vital DJing talents. He's no slouch as a producer either, a former hip hop prodigy who formerly made beats for the likes of Mos Def and De La Soul. Nowadays, the New Yorker mostly produces beautiful, summery house music, notably having one of the most anticipated LPs of 2016 about to drop on Theo Parrish's legendary Sound Signature. Support is lent by The Pickle Factory's Toby Nicholas.
