CINEMA OF THE IMAGINATION at Bristol's Cube Microplex

The legendary Crick Crack Club's brand new season of Fairytales for Grown-ups launches in November, at the fabulously anarchic Cube Microplex, turning this off-piste venue into a real cinema of the imagination.

The Crick Crack Club has made it to the South West at last and this time they're here to stay! Their first season of Fairytales for Grown-ups launches in November at the fabulously anarchic Cube Microplex, turning this off-piste venue into a real cinema of the imagination.

The Crick Crack Club is a little bit legendary. Founded and run voluntarily by world-class storyteller, Ben Haggarty, for the last 30 years, it's a long-standing part of London's odd-ball cultural landscape...but when Ben got hitched to a Bristolian - the club's own Programme Manager the organisation had not just a wedding, but a whole new home-coming to enjoy!

That's not to say that the Crick Crack Club don't already run events across the country they do but as Programme Manager, Kate Norgate says 'Bristol loves stories, and if there's anywhere else ready to seriously 'get' what we do, then it has to be here'.

The easiest way to think of the Crick Crack Club is as a peripatetic venue, hosting an incredibly diverse programme of dark, wild and downright magical myth, epic and fairytale, performed by the very best contemporary storytellers. The original stories were meant for adults, but sanitized versions are bandied about and most of us know them - as children's stories. But they're more powerful than that. Fairytales for Grown-ups restores all the best bits, for the audience the stories were intended for.

Ben Haggarty says 'The Cube feels like the perfect Crick Crack Club home. These are people who take art, entertainment, and quality programming seriously, and who appreciate all things that are a little less than mainstream! Also, they're just getting on with it and that demands complete respect.'

This first Crick Crack season is a fair indicator of things to come with fairytales featuring blacksmiths, male initiation and the truth about what the wolf really did to little red riding hood (not to mention what happened to granny); a stunning story about how a surrealist survived in a concentration camp by telling stories, and an epic ride through the mythology of Hindu goddess Kali with music from Transglobal Underground's Sheema Mukherjee.

These are shows for anyone with an imagination who likes to feed it. All you need to know, is that the answer to Crick? is Crack!
