Glasgow Games problems may take days to fix

The ongoing fiasco that has stopped people from buying tickets for the 2014 Commonwealth Games may "take days" to fix, organisers have said.

Visitors to the games have vented their fury over the debacle over ticket sales, provided by Ticketmaster. Customers wanting to watch the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow faced huge delays on the website, as well as problems with their transactions, due to the amount of people wanting to buy the tickets.

Transactions were initially halted for a short period on Tuesday to allow their developers to find out what was causing the problems on their website, but they couldn't find a fix. As a result, the organisers decided to pull the plug on all sales whilst they investigate, which could take days to resolve.

A total of 100,000 extra tickets were originally available through the website when they went on sale on Monday. Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies were also due to be on sale.

The chief executive of Glasgow 2014 has offered an unreserved apology for those who have been affected by the ongoing issues, saying "we will only reopen the site once Ticketmaster is confident that the issues with the website have been resolved."

One fan who wanted to watch Tom Daley in the games' diving competition said that she had run up a £57 phone bill attempting to buy tickets through the hotline, and eventually gave up.

However, it has been reported that 55,000 tickets were sold prior to the blackout. Mountain biking, track cycling, swimming, diving and triathlon events are already sold out.
