Introducing the Bionic Eye

Bionic eyes and the latest invisibility experiments are among the amazing exhibits at a science fair in London.

The Royal Society Science Exhibit currently houses the amazing bionic eye which researchers say could be a low-cost way to help thousands of people. The bionic eyes are worn like glasses and contain a small camera connected to a tiny computer.

The software contained within the eye enables wearers to see close up objects more clearly with the help of small LEDs which light the objects up. Scientists are currently carrying out a year long study on the device which could provide a non-surgical option for those suffering from eye disease.

Scientists at the convention are also showcasing their plans to develop the technology behind an 'invisibility cloak' like that in the Harry Potter stories.

Professor Ulf Leonhardt from St. Andrews University will demonstrate his attempts at a blue print for a cloaking device involving bending light and using artificial optical materials.
