Prince William is to decide whether to pursue a career in the RAF or follow a full time royal public role.
Prince William and Kate Middleton have just returned from their Diamond Jubilee tour from South East Asia amid the scandal over topless pictures of the Duchess were published by the French magazine 'Closer'.
The Royal couple are said to be safely back in the UK at their farmhouse in Anglesey, North Wales.
The couple have been living at the farmhouse with little disruption since before they were married.
A Royal insider has said that their Anglesey home has 'always been their bolthole'. He added: 'But how long that will last remains to be seen.'
Prince William, who is a Search and Rescue Pilot at RAF Valley in Anglesey, is expected to make a life changing decision before the end of the year.
The Duke has been asked by the RAF to make the decision whether he wishes to carry on in the RAF or take on a full time role in Royal duties.
This will be a hard decision for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, especially following the scandal that broke whilst on tour in South East Asia.
The life of Royal duties for William and Kate will undoubtedly give the Royal couple even less privacy than they have now.
The Prince has previously said how much he loves flying, and the island in Wales where they live gives them the peace and anonymity that the young Royals crave and for what William has described to his closest friends as 'normal lives'.
The Prince has always had a strained relationship with the press following the death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, who was killed whilst being pursued by photographers in 1997.
Royal insiders have said that he is envious of his cousins Peter Phillip and Zara Phillips who both seem to be able to 'live their lives with ease.'
Following the topless pictures of Kate Middleton, Prince William is said to be taking time out to reflect on his position and of the Duchess, who is now one of the most famous women in the world.
Will the Prince and Kate Middleton decide that enough is enough and step down from their Royal duties and live a 'normal' life in the RAF?
