Man Utd owner Malcolm Glazer dies

Manchester United's billionaire owner Malcolm Glazer has died aged 86.

The American Glazer family bought Manchester United in 2005, causing controversy and protests from the football club's supporters, and was an unpopular, divisive figure in the Manchester area.

However, the team went on to win five Premier League titles - in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013), as well as the 2008 Champions League.

His three sons, Joel, Avram and Bryan are also members of the Man Utd board of chairmen.

Glazer entered business at the age of 15, when he took over his father's watch-parts business after he passed away. Expanding his business enabled him to invest in other businesses, eventually making a fortune from his huge portfolio of shares in companies such as Harley Davidson, Tonka, and First Allied.

In addition to owning the successful Premier League club, Glazer owned the Tampa Bay Bucaneers American Football club, helping them to win the Super Bowl in 1995.

Commenting on his death, Manchester United have issued a statement, saying that "the thoughts of everyone at Manchester United are with his family tonight".

He leaves behind his wife Linda, six children and fourteen grandchildren.
