Morpurgo guest at lit festival

British author, poet and playwright Michael Morpurgo will be among the guests at London Literature Festival 2012.

Journalist John Pilger, poet Tony Harrison and Alexei Sale will also be appearing as guests at the July event on London's Southbank.

The themes for this year's lit festival are Capital Stories about London Life, Arab Revolutions and the Shake the Dust poetry slam.

All You Ever Wanted to Know About the Arab Revolutions But Were Afraid to Ask will link the festival by satellite to countries including Tunisia and Iran for the purpose of education.

Artists, activists and writers will also be sharing their experiences of the Arab revolution.

The poetry slam Shake the Dust will be led by Kate Tempest and Saul Williams, while Will Self is to examine the Olympic regeneration programme in Stratford and surrounding areas.

Author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Mark Haddon, will do a talk at the festival.

The first London Literature Festival was held in 2007. This year's festival runs from 3 to 17 July.
