Proms in the Park; Aylesbury’s very own answer to the Last Night of the Proms. The celebrations of our Parklife weekend will continue with Parklife on Sunday 31 August.

Saturday 30 August, is Proms in the Park; Aylesburys very own answer to the Last Night of the Proms. Bring a picnic and the whole family for a free celebration of live music. The Aylesbury Concert Band and soloist Alison Langer will join us for plenty of flag waving and fun topped off with fireworks.

Made up of enthusiastic amateur players from Aylesbury and the surrounding areas, Aylesbury Concert Band is a wind band serving the local community.

The band performs several concerts throughout the year within Aylesbury town as well as further afield within the Vale of Aylesbury, and at ftes and Christmas carol concerts. In addition to playing in the local area, the band has also travelled to overseas, taking their brand of entertainment to a wider audience.

Under their professional conductor, who is a serving musician in the RAF Central Band, the band has won awards at the National Concert Band Festivals, including winning Gold in November 2012.

We are delighted that Alison will be joining us for her thirds year at the proms.

Alison Langer graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, gaining a First Class Bachelors honours degree, under the tutelage of David Pollard. Alison was also the recipient of the Guildhall's prestigious Concert Recital Diploma and has recently gained a place on their Opera Course, commencing in September 2013. Alison is very grateful to the Harpenden Music Foundation for supporting her studies.

This year the theme of the concert programme will incorporate reflections and commemorations on the Centenary of the Outbreak of World War 1. The band will play a special arrangement by Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs of Keep the Faith which is based on the poem We will keep the faith by Moina Michael, after it has been read by Community Unity Project volunteers. During the interval The LuLaLas will entertain the crowds with their special 2014 commemorations programme, which include favourites such as Alexanders Ragtime Band, Let Me Call You Sweetheart, Pack Up Your Troubles In Your Old Kit Bag and many more.

In addition the band will play classical and modern favourites including a medley from Disneys Frozen, Holsts Jupiter and of course everyones proms favourite, Jerusalem, Land of Hope and Glory, British Sea Songs and many more.
