Queen Elizabeth is admitted to hospital

The Queen was admitted to hospital yesterday suffering with gastroenteritis. The 86 year old Monarch who has been suffering from the stomach bug since Friday, was taken to the King Edward VII hospital in London yesterday as a precautionary measure.

The Queen has had to cancel all of her engagements for this week including a trip to Italy on 6 and 7 March.

This unusual decision has been made after The Queen was admitted to hospital yesterday suffering from gastroenteritis since Friday.

The Monarch was admitted to King Edward VII as a precautionary measure. A spokesman from the palace said that she was in good spirits and her condition was not deteriorating.

Well known for her robust health, this is the first time in ten years that The Queen has been hospitalised.

Celebrating 60 years on the throne last year, the head of state was last seen at the London hospital visiting her husband, Prince Phillip, who was suffering from a bladder infection.

The Queen is likely to stay in hospital for two days, and her engagements have either been cancelled or postponed. The reception for MP's and MEP's at Buckingham Palace this week will be hosted by another member of the Royal family.

The Duke of Edinburgh will undertake a public engagement on his own this week at the Imperial Poona Yacht Club where he will be attending as the honorary member.

It is believed that The Queen will not be expecting any visitors during her two day stay in the London hospital.
