Thelma and Yvonne?

A cow that escaped slaughter in Germany in May 2011 has inspired an full length animated adventure created by the producers of The Lion King.

The cow named Yvonne who abandoned her cow-friends and her calf for a life on the run narrowly escaped slaughter.

The bovine ran for the hills in order to avoid slaughter, avoiding her capture for three months. The worldwide news of her journey has inspired a new film by The Lion King's producers, Papa Lowe and Max Howard.

'Yvonne even falls in love,' says Michael Aufhauser, creator of the Gut Aiderbichl animal sanctuary, based in Germany.

Last May near Muhldorf, Yvonne escaped via a break in an electric fence, evading authorities until was she finally apprehended by local police after being deemed a security risk.

Subdued with heavy tranquillisers, she was taken to the animal sanctuary where she now resides.

Aufhauser remarks, 'People thought she was a dumb cow and would not know what to do in the wild but she was so clever. Nobody could catch her and that amazed people.'

The film is to be released in 2014.
