Heaven 17 has been one of the most influential English Synthpop icons of the 80's.

They burst onto the music in 1981 after founding members Martyn Ware and Ian Craig March left their original band, the Human League. They recruited their good friend and photographer, Glenn Gregory to be their vocalist and released their first single "(We Don't Need This) Fascist Groove Thang" It was a minor hit but their cutting edge sound and thought provoking lyrics would pave the way for future success. In 1983, Heaven 17 finally hit their stride with the release of their fifth U.K. Single, "Temptation" which peaked at number 2. Their second album, 'The Luxury Gap,' was also major hit as well, becoming certified platinum in 1984. Besides creating their own music, they produced for other artists as well. When the band members formed Heaven 17, they created their own production company called the British Electronic Foundation or BEF. They helped relaunch the career of Tina Turner in the mid 80's and produced for Hot Gossip and Terrence Trent D'Arby. The band continue to produce music throughout the 80's and 90's. Currently, Glenn Gregory and Martyn Ware are still performing while Ian Craig Marsh left the band in the late 2000's to pursue a degree in Psychology.
