What's on at The Sage

Elvis Costello

Regarded by many to be one of the more influential and creative musicians of his era, Elvis Costello has consistently released his unique variety of music since the late 1970's. With an individual style that has spanned the gamut in regard to genres, Costello found his beginnings in punk rock and new wave, moving on to do what very few others have done, to create his own diverse and eclectic sound that never sounds the same, yet somehow always sounds right. While Costello's tunes are no stranger to popular music channels, his best remain to be album tracks that require deeper digging, though definitely worth the effort to uncover the gems to be found. DetailsThe Sage, Gateshead, 12 Jun 2013

Modest Mouse

American Indie rock band 'Modest Mouse' has been on the music scene since 2003. They have released 5 albums to date (all with long titles) their debut in 1996 being 'This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About' and their latest being 'We were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank' in 2007. Band members are Isaac Brock, Jeremiah Green and Eric Judy. DetailsThe Sage, Gateshead, 14 Jul 2013

Alison Moyet

Essex girl, Genevieve Alison Jane Moyet, born 1961 is famed for her deep bluesy voice and her career both in the band Yazoo (1981) and as a solo artist. Yazoo's hits include 'Only You' and 'Don't Go' then her solo career began with the album 'Alf' in 1984. She performed with Paul Young in 84 at the Live Aid Concert and in 2002 was nominated for both a BRIT award and a Mercury Music Prize. DetailsThe Sage, Gateshead, 6 Oct 2013

Bryan Ferry

Lead vocalist and charismatic front man of Roxy Music, where he originally performed alongside fellow greats like Brian Eno, and outstanding solo star Bryan Ferry is a living legend. With a smooth timeless style inspired by his age's top fashion designers and a hypnotic voice (especially when delivered over synth-pop) that plays his listeners emotions like a violin, Bryan's dramatic delivery has won fans to his cause since the beginning. Fair to say despite his overwhelming solo success his 15 years away from Roxy Music never quite felt right. DetailsThe Sage, Gateshead, 9 Nov 2013

Billy Bragg

Steven William Bragg or 'Billy' is loved for his alternative rock style and edgy political activism. His music is a mixture of folk, rock and punk, with lyrics often reflecting political unrest or more romantic themes. Billy's 30 years as a political activist have seen him become a staunch Thatcher/Tory opponent. DetailsThe Sage, Gateshead, 28 Nov 2013

10 must-have books for British tourists

Each year millions of tourists step foot onto British soil to experience the culture and history of this beautiful land. BritEvents brings you our list of ten must-have books for tourists to Britain.

Britain's Top 10 Tourist Attractions

It's no surprise that most of the top 10 visitor attractions in Britain are in our capital city, London. However, with Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Alton Towers bucking the trend, there's much to be seen outside of London. Why not take a look.

Great British food festivals

The French may think that we're just a nation of 'les rosbifs', but ask any Brit what they think of our cuisine and they'll tell you that we're a world-leader in high quality food. To celebrate and bring together the diversity of cuisine in Britain, food festivals are popping up all across the country. It's enough to make those Gallic chefs choke on their snails.

Top 10 historic British museum ships

It was once said that Britain ruled the waves, and that's no surprise given the amount of time and money that was dedicated to building the world's greatest fleet of ships. Some of these ships still survive, and BritEvents takes a look at what we think are the top ten historic ships, now open to the public.
