Redcar and Cleveland is a unitary authority in the county of North Yorkshire. Consisting of the towns of Guisborough, Saltburn-by-the-Sea and Redcar as well as Loftus, Skelton, Eston and Brotton it was created in 1974 as Langbaurgh, under the non-metropolitan county of Cleveland. However, Cleveland was abolished in April 1996 and its districts became unitary authorities. Langbaurgh was then changed in name to Redcar and Cleveland.
