Ali G steals the show on C4 Comedy Awards

Sacha Baron Cohen was presented with an Outstanding Achievement Award at the British Comedy Awards broadcast on Channel 4 last night. Turning up to receive the award dressed as his alter ego Ali G the comedian was met with rapturous applause.

Sacha Baron Cohen stole the show last night at the British Comedy Awards when he dressed up as his alter ego Ali G to collect his Outstanding Achievement Award.

The comedian, unsurprisingly, provided the only controversial moment of this Award Ceremony broadcast on Channel 4 last night.

Arriving on stage, the comedian told the audience that it had been 'ten years since I's been on the telly. Times has been tough means me now well skint'.

The comedian went on to say: #quote#These day I got to buy me tracksuits from secondhand shops. Look!#/quote#

He turned his back to the audience held out his arms to reveal his gold tracksuit had the name 'Savile' embossed on the top.

Ali G added: #quote#I ain't ever heard of this label.#/quote#

After a short intake of breath, the audience roared with laughter and whistled in support of the joke.

Unfortunately the stunt has not gone down too well in the media, with some people saying that the joke was offensive and insensitive, some even said that the comedian had gone too far.

I didn't help matters when he then made a joke about Kate Middleton's baby, saying that the baby could turn out black and if it did he told the audience not to 'ask me no questions'.

There was however, strong reaction to the jokes on twitter from viewers who were keen to show their approval for his very funny speech.

One user tweeted; ' I LOL'd when Ali G said: 'If the baby comes out of da royal poonani black, don't ask me any questions' on the comedy awards. HAHAHA'

Another Twitter user posted: ' Sacha Baron Cohen as Ali G wearing a tracksuit with Savile on the back could be the funniest TV moment of the year. #BritComAwards'

Twitter has been inundated in support for the comedian, and so they should it was television at it's best!
