The assistant to the renowned artist David Hockney died in hospital yesterday after being taken by ambulance from the artist's home in a serious condition. Police are now investigating the death of the artist's 23 year old friend.

23 year-old Dominic Elliot, the assistant and close friend of the renowned artist David Hockney, died yesterday in hospital after a been taken from the artist's home in Bridlington.

Mr Elliot, who has worked with the 75 year-old artist on a series of works around the Bridlington area, was rushed to Scarborough Hospital early yesterday morning (Sunday 17 March) in a critical condition, but sadly died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Mr Elliot, a keen rugby player and member of Bridlington RFC is believed to have taken 'something that had led to his death.

A spokesperson for the Police said.#quote#The circumstances of the man's death are not clear and officers are currently undertaking inquiries to establish events leading to his death.#/quote#

It is believed that David Hockney, who also resides in Los Angeles, is currently in the Bridlington area, reported the Telegraph.

A pioneer of modern art, Hockney,had painted a portrait of his assistant in 2008.

A major exhibition at the Royal Academy for which David Hockney's work called A Bigger Picture was the subject, was heralded in 2012 as one of the cultural highlights of the year.

According to the Telegraph, the artist who is thought to be worth over £36million, worked on this project in a room in his sisters house in the seaside town.

Bridlington Rugby Club have said that: 'Dominic was a valued member of our club, a good player with great potential.

The club have released statement on their website reading: 'Bridlington Rugby Club would like to send their condolences to the family of Dam Elliott.

'He played for the club at both second team and first team level, he will be sadly missed by all the players and club members.'
