Open Air Theatre returns to the National Trust Cliveden this summer

Spend the perfect summers evening in the National Trusts gardens at Cliveden, watching retellings of famous Roald Dahl and Shakespeare stories.

To kick things off Cliveden welcome back Illyria, one of the countrys leading theatrical interpreters. On Thursday 25 and Friday 26 August, theyll bring to life Roald Dahls classic childrens book Danny Champion of the World, which follows the journey of young Danny and his dad. As the heart-warming tale thickens and secrets unravel, you cant help but laugh along to this firm family favourite.

Next up, on Saturday 27 August, Illyria present an enchanting production of one of Shakespeares most popular plays, A Midsummer Night's Dream. This battle-of-the-sexes comedy is a whirlwind of romance and conflict, taking place in a supernatural dystopian world. An evening treat best enjoyed with friends.

Lastly, commemorate 400 years since the death of William Shakespeare by joining The Lord Chamberlains Men, on Saturday 3 September, for a performance true to its 16th-century origins; in the open air, in full Elizabethan costume and with traditional music and dance. Much Ado About Nothing tells the story of courtship and scandal between sweet Hero and her slandered, starry-eyed suitor, Claudio. As the duos love develops into marriage and deceit, a witty war of words takes centre stage.

Take a picnic along and a big fluffy blanket to enjoy before the performance begins. The Dolls House Caf, close to the performance area, will also be open for light refreshments from 10am to 5.30pm.
