US folk singer wows Shropshire crowd

Henry Tudor House in Shrewsbury, Shropshire played host to American Folk singer Nels Andrews. The US singer was accompanied by Brandon Seabrook on banjo and mandolin and together they raised the roof at HTH Live!

The newly refurbished Henry Tudor House in Shrewsbury, Shropshire played host to American folk singer Nels Andrews last night.

The singer was accompanied by banjo and mandolin player Brandon Seabrook, and together they played an amazing set to a sold out audience.

The tracks Andrews played were from his third studio album Scrimshaw. The title of the album means 'The art of caving or incising intricate designs on whalebone or whale ivory'.

The tracks from the album were largely set in and around New York, where he resides and each song was introduced with an explanation for his influences.

His songwriting is superb and meaningful and his voice captivates you, with the added beauty from the haunting sounds of the banjo and mandolin playing this was an evening I was glad I didn't miss.

Watching Brandon and Nels perform together was a real treat, Brandon's love for the banjo and mandolin was evident by the way he used the instruments with ease and passion.

Speaking to both artists after the show, they told me they were overwhelmed by the reception they had from the Shrewsbury folk and particularly loved the venue.
