Stirlingshire or the County of Stirling is a Scottish registration county that was based around Stirling and was bordered by Dunbartonshire in the south west, Lanarkshire in the south, Clackmannanshire and West Lothian in the east and Perthshire in the north. Stirlingshire was a county until 1975. In 1975 however, the vast majority of Stirlingshire was subsumed into the Central Region and since 1996 the area of the county has been divided into the districts of Stirling, North Lanarkshire, Falkirk and East Dunbartonshire.
